Summer Holidays

See post below for Tuesday, and contact Virginia for details. On Tuesday, August 5th, the Arts and Heritage Council is closed for the fair, so interested "CeCees" can meet at 6:00 at JC's for appetizers. We'll discuss then, whether or not we're meeting more in August or waiting until September. Happy vacationing!

Bonjour CeCees ...

Monday, July 14 is Bastille day. If you find yourself in NYC, go over to MacDougal Street, between Houston and Spring Street and just east of 6th Avenue. Enjoy the block party.

I have the most wonderful memory of my mother joining some of my children, there tre cool friends, and moi, about ten years ago for the celebration. At 82, she had taken the LIRR in to Penn Station from Northport, and then a subway, "to have some fun."

There is an ongoing bocce ball game set up in the street and some of the local French, and not so French, restaurants, have a little tournament. There is great food, beverages, music, and much spontaneity.

On this particular day, at some point, musicians began to play the Marseilles. My mother, my very Irish mother, stood up, broke into song and encouraged  the crowd to sing with her ... IN FRENCH! As she bowed to rousing cheers and applause when the song ended, I could only wonder if this was the same woman who raised nine children on the "don't ever do anything where someone can point a finger at you, and don't be calling attention to yourself" mantra.

Perhaps it was her longterm memory getting better, as she got older, perhaps it was the Chardonnay, or perhaps it was her Child Artist ... still doing while she could.

Whatever it was, it was a wonderful afternoon.

Week 9 "Recovering a Sense of Compassion" Continued

Last week we began re-reading our "Morning Pages".
This week we're to finish the tasks in week 9.
  • Task 2: Visualizing: Fully imagine having your goal accomplished.
  • Task 3: Priorities: List for yourself your creative goals for the year.
  • Task 4: Creative U-Turns: Name one of your creative U-Turns.
Have a wonderful weekend. See you on Tuesday.

If the Queen of Cups appears in a reading to indicate a woman, she will be a gentle and tranquil woman, romantic by nature, generous with her tenderness. She will be something of a day-dreamer - perhaps a bit unrealistic, but creative and hopeful.

She is often involved in creative or literary pursuits, and enjoys art, good music, literature and things of beauty.

"Recovering a Sense of Strength" Continued

Last week we looked at our goals, and did a goal search. This week we are looking at our childhood, our colours, and more of our desires. On page 147 there is a quote by Dr. Joseph Murphy, "Your desire is your prayer. Picture your desire now and feel it's reality and you will experience the joy of the answered prayer." This is the teaching of "The Secret", of Wayne Dwyer, of Eckhart Tolle, and many other spiritual leaders. Our thoughts create our world.

  • Task 2: New Childhood...What might you have been?
  • Task 3: Colour Schemes...Pick a colour and write a few sentences describing yourself...
  • Task 4: List five things you are not allowed to do.
  • Task 5: Style Search...List twenty things you like to do.
* Mary Cassatt, "Mother and Child"

LESSON

I was thinking of you all and think we all can relate to this poem:)
Connie

LESSON
by Grace E Easley
They said "you'll never make it",
And they thought that they were right.
But I kept on plodding onward,
Because I hoped I might.
And they shook their heads in wonder,
That I lacked the sense to quit,
But I held my chin up higher,
And I didn't mind a bit.
They said "you'll never make it",
As the problems multiplied,
But I had to make an effort,
And to know at least I tried.
So I dug my heels in deeper,
Though sometimes my spirits lagged,
And I shouldered what was lightest,
And the rest I sort of dragged.
And I found to my amazement,
At the ending of the day,
That what they said I couldn't,
I had managed anyway.
It only took three little words,
"Lord help me", and I rid
myself of doubt, and all they said
I'd never do...I did.
Actually, I had been praying for guidance, because of some self-pity personal issues, when I came upon this poem in some old papers. I knew when I read it, it was God's answer to me:)
